Warning
By contributing to any repository maintained under the GitHub organisation @PasscodesApp, you acknowledge and agree to these contribution terms as they apply at the time of your contribution.
1. Voluntary Contributions¶
Contributions to Passcodes are made voluntarily.
By contributing, you acknowledge that your contribution does not create any expectation or entitlement to payment, royalties, revenue sharing, or any other financial compensation, either now or in the future.
This remains the case even if Passcodes, or any version or future form of the project, becomes monetized.
2. Project License¶
Contributions are intended to become part of the project and are subject to the project's applicable open-source license, currently the MIT License.
Contributors should only submit work that they have the necessary rights or permission to contribute under the applicable project license.
3. Use in Current and Future Versions¶
Contributions may be used, modified, combined with other work, redistributed, or included in current and future versions of the project.
This includes versions of Passcodes that may be monetized in the future.
Contributors should not expect additional compensation or other financial benefits as a result of their contribution being used in such versions.
4. Public Contributions and Attribution¶
Contributions to Passcodes are intended to be public contributions.
Contributors should not submit work with the expectation that the contribution will remain secret, private, or anonymously associated with the project.
Contributions may appear in public GitHub history, commits, pull requests, releases, documentation, websites, or other public project records.
A contributor's name, GitHub username, or social-media handle may also be publicly associated with their contribution through credits, acknowledgments, release announcements, or community updates, including posts on LinkedIn, Discord, Telegram, or other Passcodes community platforms.
Contributors are welcome to receive credit for their work, and public attribution may be used to recognize their contribution.
5. Continued Availability of Contributions¶
Once a contribution has been accepted and incorporated into the project, it may be retained and used by the project indefinitely, subject to the applicable project license.
Contributors should therefore submit contributions with the understanding that they may remain part of Passcodes permanently.
A contributor should not expect to be able to later withdraw, retract, or require the removal of a contribution simply because they no longer wish it to be part of the project.
This does not prevent the project maintainers from voluntarily removing or replacing a contribution when they consider it appropriate.
6. Scope of "Contribution"¶
For these terms, contribution means any contribution made to the Passcodes project, including but not limited to:
- source code;
- documentation;
- website content or changes;
- designs;
- tests and testing;
- bug reports;
- feedback;
- suggestions;
- ideas; and
- other project-related work or assistance.
7. Updates to These Terms¶
These terms may be updated from time to time.
Updates will be announced through the Passcodes community, preferably through the official Discord community.
Contributors are encouraged to check for updates before making future contributions.
Changes to these terms are intended to apply to contributions made after the updated terms are published, unless otherwise explicitly stated.
8. Disclaimer¶
This document is intended to clearly communicate the contribution expectations for the Passcodes project. It does not replace or override the project's applicable open-source license or any formal legal agreement.
The project's MIT License remains the applicable open-source license for the project.
If you have questions about these terms, please contact the Passcodes maintainers before contributing.
Casual Explanation¶
I know the section above looks very formal, and honestly, it can sound a little strict too. 😅
But I want to be clear with contributors from the beginning so nobody contributes to Passcodes while expecting something that I never intended to provide.
Passcodes originally started as a hobby project, and I honestly wasn't expecting it to grow this much. The response from the community, especially on Telegram, has been much greater than I initially expected. Thank you for that. 💜
Because of that, I am considering monetizing Passcodes in the future.
So I want to make one thing very clear before that happens:
If you contribute to Passcodes, please don't contribute expecting payment, royalties, revenue sharing, or some other financial benefit later if the project makes money.
At the same time, I don't want your work to disappear without recognition. Contributions are public, and contributors can be credited and publicly associated with the work they contributed.
I also want contributions to be treated as something you are genuinely willing to give to the project. Once your contribution is accepted and becomes part of Passcodes, you should not expect to be able to come back later and require me to remove it.
This document is mainly here so that everyone knows these expectations before contributing, rather than having misunderstandings years later.
I am not trying to make contributing difficult. I just want to be transparent from the beginning.
If you have any questions or concerns about these terms, please ask before contributing. You can reach out on any Passcodes community platform, preferably through our Discord community.
